Itinerary:
Day 1: Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains – Ait Ben Haddou – Dades Valley
The 3 Days Morocco Desert Student Tour begins with departure from Marrakech toward the High Atlas Mountains, offering students an introduction to Morocco’s geography and mountain ecosystems. Traveling through the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass, the route passes traditional Berber villages where students can observe rural lifestyles and discuss how mountain communities adapt to the environment. Stops along the way allow time for photos and short explanations about the region’s cultural and natural history.
The journey continues to Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of Morocco’s most significant historic ksars. Here students discover traditional mud-brick architecture, ancient caravan trade routes, and the role of fortified villages in Moroccan history. After exploring the kasbah, the tour travels through the Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs, an important historic corridor connecting desert trade routes with the Atlas Mountains. Arrival in Dades Gorges in the evening, where students spend the night and reflect on the first day of cultural and geographic discoveries.
Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Sahara Desert – Merzouga Luxury Camp
After breakfast, students continue the Morocco Student Tour toward Todra Gorge, a spectacular canyon formed by centuries of geological erosion. This stop provides an opportunity to observe Morocco’s natural landscapes and learn about the formation of desert valleys and rock formations. A short walk through the gorge allows students to explore the canyon while discussing the importance of water sources and agriculture in desert regions.
In the afternoon, the tour reaches Merzouga, the gateway to the Sahara Desert and home of the famous Erg Chebbi dunes. Students begin a camel trek across the dunes during sunset, experiencing the desert landscape in a traditional way used for centuries by nomadic travelers. The evening is spent in a Merzouga luxury desert camp, where students enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner and learn about Berber and nomadic desert culture, music, and storytelling under the stars.
Day 3: Merzouga – Draa Valley Cultural Route – Ouarzazate – Marrakech
Students wake early to witness the sunrise over the Sahara dunes, a unique moment to observe the desert environment and discuss the climate and ecosystems of southern Morocco. After breakfast, the group returns to Merzouga village and begins the journey back toward Marrakech, continuing the educational travel experience across different Moroccan landscapes.
The route follows the historic Draa Valley, famous for its vast palm groves, ancient kasbahs, and traditional irrigation systems. This region historically connected Saharan trade caravans with northern Morocco, offering students insights into historic trade networks and desert agriculture.
